Imam Al- Sha'afi (NO DEBATE)
I was just reading some words of wisdom from Imam Al- Sha'afi and came across this,
"I never once argued with anyone hoping to win the debate; rather I always wished that the truth would come from his side."
Image how sincere he must of been..! we love to debate to win and we will never give up till we do, and who these days wants the other to be right. Imagine the sincerity in a person where he must humble himself and say, "akhi your closer to the truth, im wrong and your right"
May we improve ourselves to be like those mountains of knowledge whose life was dedicated to this Deen and their dying on ISLAM was a proof for them, but yet it cant be said for the living?
Abdullah Ibn Masood(ra) has a famous saying to sum all this up he said;
“Whoever wishes to follow a good example, then let him follow the example of those who have already died (i.e., from the Prophet’s Companions RA). As for those who are still alive, not a single one of them is guaranteed safety from the trails and tribulations of life (i.e., we know that the Companions died upon Islam, but as for those who are still alive they might be Muslims now, but we do not know whether or not they will die as Muslims). The former group to whom I am referring consists of the Companions of Muhammad(saw) and Righteous scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah of the past. By Allah they are the best people of this nation; they are the most pious at heart, the most knowledgeable, and the least artificial of all people. Allah chose them to be companions of His Prophet(saw) and to establish His religion. So acknowledge their superiority and follow their guidance, to the best of your ability, hold on to the example of their manners and of their religion, for indeed, they were upon guidance“
